World-wide Hydrogeological Mapping and Assessment Programme

The World-wide Hydrogeological Mapping and Assessment Programme (WHYMAP) was launched to contribute to the world-wide efforts to better understand, manage and protect aquifer resources. It is a joint programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Commission for the Geological Map of the World (CGMW), the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR). WHYMAP aims at collecting, collating and visualising hydrogeological and groundwater related data at a global scale in cooperation with other international partners (such as GRDC or IGRAC) and has focused its activities on presenting these information in an appropriate way to groundwater experts as well as non-experts and politicians in world maps and web map applications.
