Reservoir inundation dataset

This information product used a database of point locations of existing and proposed dams (on the Irrawaddy, Salween, Mekong, and Red River systems), remotely sensed imagery, digital elevation model data, and other information inputs as the basis for representing the likely extent of reservoirs resulting from each dam with a single polygon. For existing dams, polygons were compiled from existing data on Open Street Maps or digitized from high-resolution satellite imagery. For planned or proposed dams, polygons were derived by modeling the likely inundation area of a given dam using information on the planned location and height of the dam and digital elevation model data.
