Ground cover monitoring for Australia - data update on the Monitor website October 2014

Ground cover monitoring for Australia data was updated on the MONITOR website October 2014 (http://www.agriculture.gov.au/abares/monitor/Pages/default.aspx). The Department of Agriculture has invested in the application of satellite imagery to monitor ground cover for Australia. This is a collaborative partnership with CSIRO, the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN), all states and the Northern Territory. This data update includes maps and charts of median bare soil, green and non-green vegetation for Australia from 2000 to 2014 by month, season and year. This information enables regular monitoring of ground cover to assess environmental targets, such as those for the National Landcare Program, relating to soil erosion and land management in Australia.

The updated ground cover summary statistics and supporting metadata will also be available for download from the National Computational Infrastructure web page https://remote-sensing.nci.org.au/u39/public/html/modis/fractionalcover-metrics-abares/.
