Fire Information for Resource management System

FIRMS is an internet-based mapping tool, and fire email alert service, designed to provide hotspot / fire locations to natural resource managers and other stakeholders around the World. The mapping system allows users to view and query global fire locations in near-real time. It can be accessed using a standard web browser. Users can also subscribe to receive fire email alerts for their area of interest. FIRMS obtains data from the NASA Earth Observation Satellites Terra and Aqua. These data are processed by MODIS Rapid Response using the MOD14 thermal anomalies algorithm. Locations of high temperature are identified ingested into the FIRMS spatial database. From there, the data are made available through a range of web-mapping services, as shape and text files. Fire alerts are also sent via email to subscribers.
