ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CENTER: AVERAGE GLOBAL DATABASE (AGD)

As part of a multiyear project examining both saline formations and hydrocarbon reservoirs to better understand the storage coefficients of deep saline storage and utilization factors for enhanced oil recovery, intensive literature reviews were performed to gather necessary data to build and simulate geocellular models. The following outlines the methodology, data collected, and references for Task 2.

Readily available published and unpublished site-specific geologic and reservoir engineering modeling parameters and data from recent and ongoing pilot-, demonstration-, and commercial-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) injection projects were gathered. This information provided input into the creation of heterogeneous static geologic models.

In addition, the average global database (AGD) previously developed by the Energy & Environmental Research Center as part of the storage coefficient development efforts described in the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme (2009) was expanded. All pertinent reservoir properties found in the literature review for different reservoir classes will be added to the existing AGD. A chart representing a porosity vs. permeability crossplot for each primary depositional environment is included.
